The Inuit had many different beliefs and traditions. They had good and bad gods, spirits, and creatures. For example, the polar bears, or Nanuk, was so highly valued, that they prayed before they killed it, and every part went to use exept for the liver. Even the dogs were not allowed to eat the liver, for it was to highly valued. That is the one part the Inuit threw away.

The spirits the Inuit had to worry about were ghosts. They were evil beings who romed the sorld with no soul. In fact, the scary campfire stories we tell today originated from the ghost stories the Inuit told their young! But there were good spirits, too.  The stories say that the northern lights is the ancestors of the Inuit.  They also had gods and godesses, and we have an exalent exibit, so come to find out about that.

The Inuit's everyday life can be veiwed at the museum, where we have the real decendence acting it out. You will see that every Inuit gets married- sometimes to two wives! This is not suprising as it seems, because the woman has lots or work to do. They sew the clothes, tent to the fire, make the food, and repared everyones clothing at the end of the day. If there is  one tear, it can lead to death. The men hunted, and built the homes.

The Inuit were quite fond of their elders and children. Elders were not abandoned unlike the myth tells us, but treashured for their wisdom. Children were carried on their mothers backs untill they were 3.  They were taught the life to survive.
